What is dental contouring?

Dental Contouring is an affordable treatment which can be used to improve the size and shape of your teeth and create a balanced smile. Contouring can be used to improve minor imperfections such as chipped teeth, worn edges or shallow grooves in the tooth enamel and bring the teeth back into alignment. Contouring can also be used to treat minor problems with bite and function.

During you consultation, our dentist will examine your teeth to determine whether the defects are suitable for correction using contouring and reshaping. We will also take panoramic x-rays of your teeth to make sure that they are healthy enough to undergo removal of a small amount of the surface enamel.

As contouring only involves the removal of surface enamel, the treatment is pain-free, so no aesthetic is required.  Contouring is usually completed within an hour and you may resume eating and drinking within a few hours.  Your teeth may feel slightly sensitive for a day or two after treatment, however, this will quickly subside.
